Tulchan B Broom Pool - The Far Side: Atlantic Salmon on the River Spey
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Месяц назад
A beautiful fresh Spey Springer from Tulchan B's famous Broom Pool. It’s May here on the Spey. It doesn’t take long and I’m into a salmon in the neck of the Broom pool. Surprisingly it didn’t take in the deeper water where I was expecting but right in the shallows, practically on the dangle. The water can’t be more than maybe a foot deep there. That’s definitely a lesson right there for me on t...

Fabulous fish, personally I don’t salmon fish any more , they have enough hassle without anglers these days, those that make a home run should in my view be left alone.
I love spey fishing and I wonder who is more dramatic - steel headers or Atlantic salmon anglers 😂
Ah an age old question! I have an equal love for both!!!!
Brilliant, informative and riveting video. Wonderful scenery, lots of wisdom. We may be the last generation to fish for wild salmon. Here in Newfoundland, numbers are dwindling year over year. Thank you,
Thanks so much for your kind comments. Makes the effort worthwhile. It's a very sad state we find ourselves in. I agree if nothing changes, we are the last to enjoy these wonderful creatures.
enjoyed that Paul and nicely edited too 👏🎣👍👍
Thanks 👍you kind words are really appreciated! Leaving a wee comment really helps the channel so thanks again! Tight lines for the season!!
Beautiful video Paul! You are right the drone footage does make for a great perspective. Totally agree with your concerns regarding the salmon stocks...we note the same thing here on the East coast of Canada. The usual culprits are considered: dams, salmon rearing pens, poorly managed resource with poaching and or predation, North Atlantic water temperatures, open sea netting by-catch by super trawlers, etc. etc. etc. It is gut wrenching to see this magnificent fish on a path to extinction...At least, we as fisherpeople can practice maneuvers to help our catch safely return to the rivers we frequent. we must advocate for the safe release of all the salmon we have the good fortune to encounter while practicing a responsible fishery. Cheers, Mike PS Sorry for the rant...
I think you comment sums up perfectly everything that is wrong with the management of salmon. It is a terrible situation and the powers that have the ability to make the necessary changes and too interested in short term grabs. I try not to be negative but I am extremely worried that extinction is a credible outcome.
Hey Paul, fantastic video once again!! Have sent you an email - Chris
Got it and replied! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Tight lines!
Excellent and thoroughly captivating video, drone footage really adds to the story, congratulations on winkling out a nice strong fish! thank you for producing and sharing this.
Many thanks for watching and leaving such a nice comment! Tight lines on your own adventures!!
Great beat, Steve and his ghillies always look after us..never feel I fished Junction pool very well, river looked lower than last time I fished it, noticed you weren’t wading far out (why do a lot of fishers feel they need to be standing in middle of pool, when reality they’ve probably pushed the fish further away!!) hopefully back there next month. Your right about the stocks, very concerning and too little has been done to late. Tight lines!!
Glad you enjoyed it. 100% agree on the service provide by Steve and his team! Always an enjoyable time fishing here!
Superb video. Looks a fantastic pool to fish. I must try and fish the Spey some more I'm still searching for my first Spey salmon.
You should! Definitely my favorite river. Salmon and becoming so hard to find but the harder it gets the more we want one :) Tight Lines!
Lovely pool. Such a shame to see what’s happening around us.
It's a terrible situation - needle in a haystack. It'll probably be all over in a few years......
Brilliant video, stay at ballindalloch when fishing further upstream but never fished there
Definitely give it a try if you can get on. The A'an is also worth a go.
Why keep swapping hands? Left or right handed? Just wondered . . .
Good question. I am naturally a right hand winder. Right hand wind is the traditional wind for fly reels dating back to the origins of fly fishing reel design. A fisher would wind with the right hand and palm the reel with the left hand to provide with the drag manually so it is necessary to change arms holding the rod. I use this type of reel (click and pawl design quite a lot) thus with my right hand wind so I change arms to make use of the dominant arm. For a left hand wind click and pawl the necessity to change arms is the same, just the other way around. To be fair I could wind the modern reels with adjustable drag systems left hand but I'm so used to right hand wind I stick with that. Also changing arms with a double handed rods is necessary when applying side strain depending whether the fish is up or downstream of you. Each to their won really but this is the most comfortable for me.
Just Awesome! thanks
Glad you liked it! A special hour in a special place!!
Really great video and a stunning fish and overview of Arndilly, thank you! I too get very nervous bringing a still strong fish into the shallows on a shorter line.
I haven't been back again unfortunately! Definitely on the list though!
Steelhead!
mmmmmmm....... it's a tough one!!!
Bucket list river, for sure. Every steeled angler has "their" fish. Mine is in my photo. 30lb fish swung up on the Kispiox. Even though, I still would love to tackle a steelhead on the Babine.
Kispiox is on my bucket list!!!!! 🤣
Thanks - super video. Like a few others I would like contact details for the guide. I will be visiting Feb next year.
I can provide a few guides details. Drop me an @email and I will provide the details. Also.... keep an eye on my channel..... I have another Langkawi video in production. A follow on with the Ladyfish. One of the best saltwater fish I've encountered! Hope you get a shot at them if yr over!!
👌👌
Thx!!!!
Well done guys!!!👏👏👏
Thanks Miguel!!!
Wow terrific video and what a fish at the end ....amazing !!
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a total surprise. The afternoon had been very quiet. Hardly saw a fish and then bang this fella comes along!!
Paul, you have the ability to present your vids with "panache". Love the visuals as well as the commentary. A beautiful specimen this fish is, and looks to be quite fresh! The tug, my friend, is the drug...Mike
Many thanks! I really appreciate your encouragement ❤️
Fabulous fish, well done!
Thank you very much!
Wow
It was a superb fish. I was lucky it crossed my path!!
Stunning ❤
Thank you! Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic fish, but that must be the most barren place in the world to catch it!! Give me The Spey any day…
Yeah, it is a barren land, but the place to be honest is an experience!
PS I'm working on a Spey video at the moment!!!
Going to the emb in feb first time trip
@@Gamefishing111 Awesome!! Enjoy it!!!
Well done and patiently well played ! Congratulations - a fish of a lifetime!!
Thanks a lot!! It was special!!
Dramatic alright and that's a beautiful specimen
Thanks!
Well done! That's a seatrout that most of us can only dream about. 🙌 🐋
Yeah its a special river. I need to work hard to get down down there. Unfortunately one of the world's few place where you still have a good chance of catching fish like this. Imagine when our rivers had this volume of fish???
@FinLineFly Maybe someday didn't realise there was big numbers to.
Unfortunately all is not good there either. Consistently low water and lower numbers of fish but still a considerable run each year. Just hope it doesn't end up disappearing. Seems to be seal problem there same as here with huge numbers at the river mouth. But no bird issue though.
What a beast. What an experience to fish there. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity one day.
Definitely make a life's goal!!!!
I will be visiting Kuala Lumpur soon this year. I plan to carry a travel rod with me to fish around the city a bit, some private fun in addition to visiting clients. Can you recommend some lakes/rivers where I might catch those amazing peacock bass? Thanks.
Hey. Absolutely bring a rod. Lots of cool places to fly fish. Best advice is to contact Juan at @sportfishingasia Good Luck!!!
Wow I never thought I would make someone youtube!! Paul this fish was all you!!! Such a legendary moment for both of us <3
Absolutely screamer of a fish. I remember every second of it! You did so well to get me that fish. I particularly remember your words of encouragement when I was down!!! Thanks again for the hard work and knowledge you put it in to get me on that fish!! Are you still guiding there? I'm planning another trip later this year on early next year.
Wonderful river & fish, but only a game for the rich
It is a wonderful river! I'm not rich - I need to save like hell to go there but it's what I want to do!!
An honour shared across the Atlantic Paul! Well done and I still marvel at your cinematic offerings...no detail left to chance...even the incredible sync of the drone footage of you (or your stunt double...) driving up to the beat...this fish will live to fight another day! Mike
Much appreciated! Many thanks for the kind comments. I will also inform the chap who is in the water fishing under the drone. It is in fact a stunt double! :) :) :) :)
